Why Writing Is Like Building a House

If the foundation is weak, the house will crumble.

I don't write many articles about the craft of writing. Why? I am no expert. I have no publishing deals, and I don't earn any real money from my work. So I, like most writers, shout into the void and hope someone is listening.

Carpentry and writing are crafts that build significant structures out of nothing.

If the home builder uses substandard material, the house will crumble around them. It's the same with writing. The quality is what's going to stand. If numerous houses are built quickly, the chances are the majority of those houses may be poor workmanship. We know that rushing through a project usually impacts the quality of the work. This is why I am always on the side of quality, not quantity. Now I admit I don't write three or four articles a week. I try to write a post at least once a week, if not two, but that's my choice. I don't disparage the writers who can put together an excellent 1100 word essay in a matter of hours and receive high online engagement. I applauded them.

I know it's not my style. Each word is a building block for my house or writing project. I try to produce the best material I can from my creativity. I feel accomplished when I've put my best work forward. The work may go nowhere online. It…
