A few months ago, I was working a part-time job over the holidays. I was coming into my workspace when I told a white woman to excuse me since I didn’t want to bump into her. She turned, looked at me, and stated: “Oh yes, you never know you might steal my purse or knock me down.” I paused for a brief second and calmly said that it was racist and walked away. Now mind you I am not scary in the least I am a six-foot black guy with glasses. I was dressed business casual and spoke politely to her when I said excuse me. However, because of my gender and maleness, she immediately placed me in the realm of criminal. She has a better chance of being shot in a mass shooting by the usual white male than me harming her, but the history of our country gives a different narrative. We are to be feared and avoided. We are the big bad wolves of all the races in the world and yes we blow down white women’s houses and eat them. It pitiful as you stated and it causes most black men and women stress daily. Great article.
